		<description>That sounds a bit weird but I didn&#039;t get to use million of rows, however I believe the BBC does use a lot of documents.
Do you compact your database from time to time, do you have multiple complex views? Insert should in theory always take the same amount of time since couch only recreate the &#039;indexed&#039; at read time.

I recently looked into it for a project for work and once it got up to around 10,000,000 rows it got extremely slow.  Batch inserts of 1000 rows started sub second but at that level they were taking 30 seconds or more.  Everything I looked into about it suggested they haven&#039;t performance tested or optimized it yet.  Just wanted to throw that out there if the project is going to be large enough to need it.</description>
